330 AD - Constantine, the Roman emperor, consecrated (Donald L. Wasson. April, 19, 2013) that Byzantium, an ancient city located on the coast of the Bosporus Sea, now be titled 'New Rome', later Constantinople (present-day Istanbul).
1288 AD - Osman Gazi, a Turkish tribal chieftain (James, E. 2004) established the Ottoman Empire, in Western Anatolia (Asia Minor) and continued to reign, expand and conquer empires over the next six centuries.
1453 - Ottoman Empire subjugates Constantinople.

1919 to 1938 - Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, later liberator of Turkey, in opposition to the Ottoman Empire, initiated the War of Independence and as a result obtained means to establish The Grand Nation Assembly, which commission for The Republic of Turkey to be established on October the 29th 1923 (Central Intelligence Agency. July, 20, 2014); Inaugurating Ataturk's reforms and modernization within Turkey.
1930 - Constantinople, renamed Istanbul.
1974 - Turkey invades Cyprus.
1982 - Following the ending of the War of Independence. A new constitution was adopted on November the 7th 1982.

1984 - 1999 - A separatist Kurdish movement (Central Intelligence Agency. July, 20, 2014), in defiance of Ataturk's modernizing and centralizing reforms, commenced armed conflict against the Republic of Turkey, resulting in the increasing death rate of approximately 40 000+.
2000 - New millennium, 21st Century begins.
